High Protein Chocolate Shake

Let's face it, in a perfect world with perfect food, we wouldn't have a need to eat in the car, on the run, etc. But, as much as I crave preparing all of my meals and snacks the old fashioned way all the time, at times my hectic schedule gets in the way. I strive for about 80% "slow-cooked" foods, and the rest of the time, I just try to get something healthy on the table quickly. I created this recipe on a whim for a quick to-go shake for my busy high school athletes, replacing the need to beg for something from the drive-thru window. This is my real life, and I have to sneak in some nutrients wherever I can- lol! My secret ingredient used is moringa. If you haven't heard of moringa yet, it's the newest superfood on the horizon, with its leaves boasting more calcium, protein, iron, and vitamins B2 and B3 than it's friendly competitor, kale. See link below for a link to purchase moringa if it isn't available in your area.

Ingredients:

1 T moringa powder, organic and sustainably sourced if possible

2 c ice cubes

1 small banana

2-3 T cocoa or raw cacao powder

2 scoops unflavored protein powder (I recommend hemp, pea, or grass fed whey powder)

1.5 c unsweetened vanilla almond milk

1 tsp raw honey or 3-5 drops liquid stevia to sweeten, if desired

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a high speed blender and blend for 1 minute, scrape down sides, and blend again for 30 seconds. Pour into glasses and serve immediately. Store leftovers in refrigerator or freeze into popsicle molds for a frozen treat later. Enjoy!
